New projects

We went to Shinies this morning and returned home to a beautiful afternoon. I sat in the garden and knitted, having started T's hat again but it seems to be going ok now. On the way to Shinies I had ducked into a yarn shop (a rubbish one so don't get excited) as the theme at Shinies was the Battle of Hastings, it being the anniversary today, and I wanted to recreate the Bayeaux Tapestry...I'll post pics on that blog later so you can see for yourself how successful it was. As well as some cheap acrylic yarn in nasty colours for small children to abuse, I purchased a circular needle to start my hat as I needed another thing to be getting on with in case I had to forget Tristan's one altogether. But! in fact I now have 2 vaguely promising projects on the go:

I've done the first border for my hat and am about to start on the ravens. All will be revealed.

I also found a very exciting parcel outside the front door:

Yey! It's my next module! So I'll go through that at the weekend and sort out what needs to be done and when. It's called Understanding the Continents (known as 'hard rock' in the trade as opposed to the module I've just done on sedimentary rocks which of course is 'soft rock') and is all about mountains and deep Earth processes. Lots of maths and geochemistry but it looks good.

It was very warm in the sun as I sat on the bench in the garden. I let John and Jean out for a waddle but Jean is still very lame so I hope the antibiotics start working soon. John spent his time chatting up Joanna while Jean was off under the apple trees eating slugs and Llywelyn was in the tub and couldn't see over the top. Joanna had been dabbling enthusiatically as usual:

Hmm, she's grubbier than the children. The bees were also really busy which was great to see; hopefully we'll have a short cold winter which would suit them really well although they've had such a long foraging season I'm hopeful they'll make it. I have had a big varroa problem this year so they haven't thrived as they should have done given the good weather but I have treated them now.

I've got a day off from the children on Sunday so I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet and a chance to catch up a bit.
